Exploring STEM Careers: Highlights from the JMMB Career Fair 2024 

On June 14, 2024, Albert Milton Hall in Jwaneng was abuzz with excitement as the Jwaneng Mine Maranyane Bokamoso (JMMB) Programme hosted its highly anticipated Career Fair. This pivotal event aimed to inspire and educate students about career opportunities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and provided a dynamic platform for young minds to connect with industry professionals, mentors, and educational partners. 

The day began with registrations as students from various schools and educational institutions gathered to embark on their STEM journey. The event kicked off with a brief safety moment, followed by enthusiastic welcome remarks from Ms. Keamogetse Sampson, Corporate Affairs Manager, who emphasized the importance of safety and collaboration. 

Mr. Medupe Ramarou, Chairperson of Corporate Social Investment (CSI), provided a comprehensive overview of the JMMB Programme, highlighting its commitment to nurturing young talent in STEM. Ms. Kgomotso Phatsima, CEO and Founder of Dare To Dream, followed with an inspiring message about ambition and perseverance, particularly for young women aspiring to enter STEM fields. 

The keynote address by Ms. Ontlametse Sebonego, Senior Manager of Audit Services, was a highlight of the day. Her speech on leadership and innovation in STEM encouraged students to pursue their passions and view challenges as opportunities for growth. 

The fair featured presentations of design videos by various teams, including Team Pacto, Team Brain Creatives, Team Dare Dreamers, Team Brilliance, and Team Brave Ventures. These presentations showcased innovative solutions and creative approaches developed by students during the program. 

Mentor Ms. Oabopa Mokgetse, a Quantity Surveyor, shared valuable insights and advice for aspiring professionals, emphasizing the critical role of mentorship in career development. Mrs. Leungo Motse from the Education Implementing Partners provided guidance on educational pathways and support for students interested in pursuing STEM careers. 

The graduation ceremony was a poignant moment as Ms. Ontlametse Sebonego, Dr. Kaisara, and Ms. Maika celebrated the achievements and dedication of participants throughout the JMMB Programme. The event also featured inspiring stories from Katlo, a cohort graduate, who shared their journey and success in overcoming challenges and excelling in STEM. 

Mr. Mophuting, School Head of GoodHope Senior Secondary School, delivered the closing remarks, expressing gratitude to the organizers, participants, and sponsors. He encouraged students to continue exploring STEM opportunities and to apply the knowledge gained from the fair in their future endeavors. 

The day concluded with stall visits, allowing participants to engage directly with industry professionals and explore various career options in greater depth. The JMMB Career Fair not only provided invaluable insights into STEM careers but also ignited enthusiasm and ambition among students, inspiring them to pursue their dreams with confidence.
