Fly For STEAME

1,000+ young people reached

Born in the midst of the global pandemic in November 2020, the FLY FOR STEAME Southern Africa Initiative stands as a groundbreaking program to ignite interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Entrepreneurship (STEAME). This initiative is dedicated at inspiring the next generation, especially the girl child, through introductory inspirational flight over Gaborone, alongside robotics and coding workshops, motivational talks, and leadership sessions, this initiative is designed to unlock curiosity and fuel ambition in young minds, showing them the vast potential of STEAME careers.

Since its inception, FLY FOR STEAME has positively impacted the lives of over 1,000 young people (both boys & girls) from various regions across Botswana, including Gaborone, Francistown, Jwaneng, and rural areas such as Goshwe, Mathangwane, Takatokwane, Rasesa, Dikgonnye, Makgori, Diloro, Semolale, and Mabusehube, among others. This outreach has been made possible through partnerships with Air Botswana and the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB), which have provided invaluable support in delivering inspirational flights and raising awareness about the diverse possibilities within aviation and aerospace industries.

Our broader mission extends beyond inspiring the next generation; we aim to establish a dedicated Youth Aviation Development Hangar at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport, where we have been allocated plots tor this purpose. This state-of-the-art facility will be the first of its kind in Botswana a hub of innovation and advanced technology that will not only nurture young talent but also position Botswana as a leader in youth aviation development in the SADC region. Equipped with cutting-edge tools and resources, the hangar will offer hands-on aerospace experiences, immersive aviation education, and a platform to spark groundbreaking ideas among the youth.

Orange Hello Tech Girls

100 Girls impacted

The Orange Hello Tech Girls Programme stands as a shining example of what’s possible when purpose meets partnership. Introduced to ignite the future of 100 young girls in the technology sector, the programme was a collaboration between Dare To Dream and Orange Botswana. Launched in 2022 amid great anticipation and enthusiasm, Hello Tech Girls became more than a project it evolved into a vision. A vision of a future where women stand as equal contributors and leaders in the dynamic and ever-evolving tech space.

Rooted in empowerment, the programme focused on equipping young girls with critical skills, knowledge, and the confidence to pursue careers in STEM. It was not solely about coding it was about unlocking potential, nurturing curiosity, and showing young girls that their dreams in technology are valid and attainable. The programme proudly impacted students from Mogoditshane Junior Secondary School and Maoka Junior Secondary School, planting the seeds of innovation and leadership within their classrooms and beyond.

Airport Tour

1000 + Young people

Dare To Dream’s Airport Tours take learners beyond the departure lounge and into the working heart of an airport. Many young people have only seen an airport as passengers. These tours show them the people, systems and skills that keep flights safe, on time and moving, and help them see where an aviation career could take them.

What learners experience

Airport operations: how an airport runs day to day, from the terminal to the runway, and how many teams coordinate to keep everything on schedule.

Aviation careers: conversations with professionals and a look at the wide range of roles, including pilots, engineers, air traffic controllers, security officers, ground crew and customer service staff. Learners also hear about the subjects and pathways that lead to them.

Aircraft up close: a chance to see aircraft first-hand and learn how they work, how they are maintained and what happens before takeoff.

Safety and security: an introduction to the procedures, checks and regulations that make air travel one of the safest ways to move around the world.

Air traffic management: how flights are guided, sequenced and monitored in the sky and on the ground, and why precision and teamwork matter so much.

Passenger services: what it takes to look after travellers, from check-in and boarding to baggage handling and assistance for passengers with special needs.
