Innovation does not happen in isolation. The growth of entrepreneurship, technology, and emerging industries is influenced by the environment created around them and at the centre of that environment is policy.
On 26 February, Dare To Dream Foundation had the opportunity to attend the Coffee Sessions dialogue hosted by Botswana Digital & Innovation Hub, featuring an insightful discussion with Bame Lesego Boitshoko. The session brought together innovators, entrepreneurs, and ecosystem stakeholders to explore the relationship between policy, markets, and the future of innovation.
A key reflection from the conversation was the powerful idea that:
“Policy does not sit above the market, it is the market architecture.”
The discussion highlighted that policy is not simply a set of regulations that businesses must follow. Instead, it plays an active role in shaping how markets function, how opportunities are created, and how innovation ecosystems develop.
Effective policy frameworks can influence entrepreneurship by creating pathways for startups to access opportunities, encouraging collaboration, supporting investment, and enabling new ideas to move from concept to impact.
The session also emphasised the importance of understanding that sustainable innovation requires alignment between policymakers, entrepreneurs, industry players, and support organisations. When these groups work together, they create stronger ecosystems where businesses can grow and contribute to economic development.
Engagements such as the Coffee Sessions dialogue continue to create valuable spaces for open conversations around innovation, collaboration, and building the systems needed to support future entrepreneurs.
As we continue contributing to conversations that shape Botswana’s innovation landscape, we remain committed to supporting initiatives that inspire ideas, strengthen ecosystems, and empower the next generation of innovators.
Driving dialogue. Inspiring innovation. Shaping the future.
Because behind every successful entrepreneur is a support system that helps them succeed.
The builders need building too.
