Recruiting the Third Cohort for the Jwaneng Mine Maranyane Bokamoso Programme

The recruitment of the third cohort for the Jwaneng Mine Maranyane Bokamoso Programme has once again showcased the potential and passion of Botswana’s youth. This initiative, a collaboration between Debswana Jwaneng Mine and Dare to Dream, continues to create transformative opportunities for students in the Zone of Influence and beyond, focusing on careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with an emphasis on the mining and diamond industries.

This year’s recruitment drew an overwhelming 137 applications, reflecting the growing interest and impact of the program. Among these, 19 applicants came from the Jwaneng Mine’s Zone of Influence, and one applicant was a previous participant in the GIRL ENG program, highlighting the program’s ongoing influence. After a rigorous selection process, 34 students were shortlisted for the final cohort, including a candidate living with a neurological condition.

Candidates were tasked with answering the question:
“How do you envision utilizing your knowledge, creativity, and STEM skillset to contribute to the future of mining and community development in Botswana?” Their responses demonstrated innovative thinking and a commitment to sustainable practices, community development, and technological advancement in the mining sector. The quality of their submissions showcased the readiness of these young individuals to contribute meaningfully to the industry and their communities.

The program’s focus on empowering students from schools within the Zone of Influence ,Moshupa Senior School, Matsha College, Seepapitso Senior School, Good Hope Senior School, and Lobatse Senior School, ensures that local communities remain at the forefront of STEM and mining innovations. By providing training, mentorship, and resources, the Maranyane Bokamoso Programme continues to bridge gaps in education and opportunity, fostering a generation of leaders who are not only prepared to excel in their careers but are also dedicated to driving sustainable development in Botswana.

As the third cohort prepares to embark on this journey, the success of the recruitment process reaffirms the program’s importance in shaping the future of Botswana’s mining industry and the communities it serves.
