JWANENG MINE MARANYANE BOKAMOSO PROGRAMME

In the pursuit of discovering diamonds in the rough, Debswana’s Jwaneng Mine partnered with Dare To Dream to create a program aimed at impacting high-performing girls in STEM subjects. This endeavor led them to Matsha College, Moshupa Senior, Seepapitso Senior, and Lobatse Senior schools. The resulting initiative, known as the Jwaneng Mine Maranyane Bokamoso Program, was born from this collaboration.
Upon the program’s launch, the girls underwent extensive innovation camps as a key component of their participation.
Following the standard protocol upon entering the Mine, the first item on the agenda after arriving in Jwaneng was the girls’ attendance at an Induction. During this session, they were educated about safety measures and were familiarized with the Do’s and Don’ts of the Mine, ensuring their own safety as they prepared for a landfill visit. The insightful tour provided them with a deeper understanding of the issue that had brought them to the Mine: Mining waste. Their challenge was to devise solutions to address this problem.
