The Boys Empower Summit brought together future leaders and distinguished speakers for a day of impactful learning and inspiration. Hosted with the goal of empowering young boys, the event covered a range of essential topics designed to equip attendees with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed in life.
The summit opened with a thought-provoking session by Mpho Olefile , Underwriting Manager at Alpha Direct Insurance Co. , who focused on “Building a Better Future Through Financial Literacy and Innovation.” Olefile emphasized the importance of understanding financial principles early in life, encouraging the boys to think innovatively as they plan for their futures. His session set the tone for the day, stressing the role of financial education in shaping successful lives.
Following Olefile, Desmond Lunga TNG , Team Leader at Men and Boys for Gender Equality, delivered a powerful presentation on “Re-socializing the Boy Child and Ending Gender-Based Violence.” Lunga’s message resonated deeply, as he challenged the boys to rethink societal norms and become champions of equality and non-violence.
The summit then took a turn towards personal development with Tefo Modise Setlhare, a seasoned Senior Executive, Board Chairman, and Entrepreneur. His session on “Personal Branding and Social Media” was both engaging and informative, urging the boys to be mindful of their digital footprints and to intentionally craft their personal brands. Setlhare’s advice highlighted the importance of reputation in today’s digital age, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.
Titose Thipe, Director of Ultimate Education Consultancy, followed with an eye-opening session on “Study, Stay, and Work in Canada.” Thipe shared valuable insights into the opportunities available abroad, encouraging the boys to explore international education and career paths, and expanding their horizons beyond local possibilities.
The focus then shifted to mental well-being with Dr Gure, Managing Director of Gure Medical Centre, who addressed the critical topic of “Mental Health Awareness.” Dr. Gure stressed the importance of maintaining mental health and provided practical strategies for coping with stress and emotional challenges. His message was clear: a healthy mind is the foundation of a successful life.
Newoh Travellah Dirhenyan , Assistant Program Officer at Masiela Trust Fund, inspired the boys with her talk on “The Power of Volunteering and Giving Back.” Meshack, who is also pursuing a Master’s degree in Lifelong Learning and Community Development, shared personal experiences and highlighted how volunteering can create a positive impact not just on others, but on oneself as well.
Wrapping up the motivational talks, Thabo Andile Mhalanga, Managing Director of the African Institute of Development, challenged the boys to embrace a growth mindset in his session on “Mindset Change.” Mhalanga’s powerful words encouraged the boys to view obstacles as opportunities for growth and to stay resilient in the face of challenges.
The day concluded with a captivating performance by Juby Peacock , a talented poet who recited a stirring poem that brought energy and creativity into the room. Her words left the audience inspired, rounding off a day that was not only educational but also emotionally enriching.
As the boys actively engaged in each session, it was clear that the summit had made a significant impact. They left with a newfound sense of purpose and a toolkit of knowledge to guide them as they navigate the challenges of life. The Boys Empower Summit proved to be a pivotal experience, laying the groundwork for these young individuals to grow into responsible, empowered, and visionary leaders of tomorrow.
