On October 26, 2024, the Hello Tech Girls Program marked a significant milestone as it celebrated the graduation of its second cohort. This inspiring event showcased Botswana’s commitment to empowering young women in STEM fields. In partnership with Dare To Dream, Orange brought together 50 young girls from Maoka Junior Secondary School, immersing them in coding and technology, with the goal of bridging the gender gap in tech-driven fields.
Sharon Senthufe, HR Intern at Orange, opened the ceremony by highlighting the transformative journey that began in June 2022. She reaffirmed Orange’s ongoing role in community development and innovation, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in empowering young women. Reflecting on her experience with the Hello Tech Girls program, Senthufe expressed how rewarding it was to witness these girls grow into confident coders and future leaders.
The head of Maoka Junior Secondary School shared the pride felt by the entire school community, emphasizing how this initiative had opened new doors for the girls and demonstrated that tech careers are within their reach. Thanks to their hard work, the students gained valuable technical skills, resilience, and curiosity qualities essential for future careers. Today’s graduates represent not only a cohort but a movement toward a more inclusive future in technology.
